CA Blogging Assignment #1

     The topic I chose for my first essay is the necessity of  gender roles and the historical reasons for having them. Gender roles came about over the course of years in history and perhaps have biological explanations as well. However, besides child-bearing and heavy physical work, I do not feel the necessity of assigning certain roles for males and females. I think gender roles are not a necessity but a tendency. People of the same gender tend to do similar labor, but this does not mean the other gender is not capable to do the same labor. For example, for a long time, it was the women's job to stay home, take care of the house, and raise the children. However, nowadays, there are many men called "ikumen" who raise their children on their own, and there are also a growing population of working women. Now that the gender roles have started to shift from one gender to another, do gender roles mean anything anymore? 

     My thesis is, "with the society and historical gender roles changing, there should not be a framework for what one should do according to their gender."
